CUB SCOUT PACK 296 AKELA Cub Scout Parents, Families, Parishioners, Community Members Page AKELA Who is Akela? Akela is any adult who can make the difference in a Cub Scout's life. Akela can be parents, teachers, clergy, parish members, grandparents, community members, etc. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the life of a young man in our Parish. The St. Andrew Cub Scouts need civic minded parishioners who would like to share their talents, skills and expertise with these future leaders, grades 1-5. We are always looking for tour opportunities, demonstrations and brief, informal presentations on subjects related to sports, science/medicine, the outdoors, the arts, transportation (e.g. aviation, automobiles, etc.), communications (e.g. TV, radio station tours), government/military, and other subjects of interest to inquisitive young minds. If you or someone you know may have an interest (retirees--you too), please e-mail our Cubmaster for more information. LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES You have your son involved in Scouts because you believe it is worth the extra time required for him to participate. This is no easy accomplishment given sports and other programs kids have available to them today. As you have no doubt already experienced your son has been able to take part in activities he would not have been able to participate in if he was not a Cub Scout--all of which add to his educational, physical and emotional development. Active parental participation is essential for Cub Scouting to be successful. The program was set up to enable your son's leaders and YOU help your son achieve all the requirements required to earn each rank (Wolf, Bear, etc.) and advance to the next level. While our leaders can and have done a tremendous job seeing that your son advances through the program, they cannot do it without a heightened level of participation from every parent in their son's Dens. I hope I have made my point that you play a major role in this. How can you help? Below is a list of leader slots we need to fill. Please give serious consideration to volunteering for one of these slots. Volunteering is a great way to give something back to your church and community and sets a very good example for your son if you would like him to grow up and do community service when he is an adult. These positions are open to: MOMS, DADS, GRANDPAS AND GRANDMAS, GUARDIANS, TEACHERS, etc. If you cannot be a leader, please tell your Den Leader what else you can do to help him/her run the program this year. Suggested ways you can help and make a huge contribution include: -Agreeing to host a Den meeting in your home (better yet, plan and organize the meeting's main activity) -Agreeing to come early or stay late for a Den meeting to help the Den leader set up and clean up -Agreeing to call other parents in the Den when needed -Sharing a talent or skill you have to teach the boys -Helping arrange a tour of your workplace or other destination of interest to boys that you have access to -Helping to set up and/or clean up for a Pack Meeting that is run by your Den Please think about this and send your Den Leader a note telling him / her how you can help. All of these roles are very important and you can make a huge contribution if you agree to accept one. Your Den Leader or I would be happy to discuss how you can help. Like you, leaders are very busy balancing careers and their children's activities--the more people in the Pack we can have actively involved, the more manageable the scouting experience will be for everybody--parents and leaders included. Thank you for your consideration and thank you to all of you who have actively participated in your son's scouting experience. The scouting experience your son will have this year is dependent entirely on what WE as parents and leaders decide to put into it. The future of Cub Scouting at St. Andrew truly depends on parent volunteers. Cubmaster Pack 296 |
